Dear Friends and Family,

We are extremely thrilled to write to you about the upcoming release
of our movie PING PONG PLAYA beginning September 5th! It’s an exciting
time–but here’s where we need your help. We’ll let the movie speak
for itself, but we need your help to spread the word about the release of
the movie. Independent movies don’t have the marketing budget to
compete against the mammoth studio movies, but what we do have is
intense, strong word-of-mouth (just check out any of a number of our
reviews–from outlets large and small, from critics, bloggers, and
chat room posters alike).

Please help us continue to spread the word and come check out the
movie opening weekend!

Important Update for People With Animals in Hurricane Gustav’s Path

Just three years after the devastating Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Gustav is expected to hit New Orleans on Monday. PETA has been working hard to prevent another tragedy for animals. For the days preceding Hurricane Gustav’s anticipated landfall, PETA has been flooding Gulf Coast media markets with its preparedness tips, reaching local residents with the lifesaving message that the calm before the storm is when they must safeguard their animals. PETA’s volunteers are standing by to assist with rescue efforts in Gustav’s aftermath.

On Saturday, Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain announced that more than 160 trucks have been outfitted with pet crates to handle the evacuation and that companion animal shelters for animal guardians with “critical transportation needs” are ready for service during the Hurricane Gustav evacuation, saying, “We are taking the necessary steps to ensure the safety of Louisiana’s pets.”

“At 9:15 Friday night, the Saint Paul Police entered all doors of the RNC Convergence Space in St. Paul, MN with guns drawn. The Space serves as a community center and organizing space for the upcoming protests against the Republican National Convention. At the time of the raid, people were sitting down to dinner and watching a movie.”

NEW YORK (August 22, 2008) — UNICEF today voiced its concern over the situation of nearly 40,000 children affected by the conflict in Georgia.

The UN agency warned that living conditions, psychosocial issues and nutrition had become threats to the well-being of displaced children.

Hello again, everyone is Support Independent Film!

I sent out an email last week, but I feel like I need to get in one more before the deadline. Patron of the Arts needs your help with a vote on ideablob.com . They are in a contest to win $10,000 (which is doubled to $20,000 due to them being an Advanta cardholder) in order to start a company/foundation to support independent film an artists. This is exactly what we’re about!

PotA doesn’t need anything from you except for a minute of your time to go to http://ideablob.com/ideas/2890 , register, and vote for PotA. Currently, PotA is in third place with 1020 votes, with the first place at 2015. If we just get 3% of Support Independent Film! members to do this before tomorrow night, we can blow the others out of the water and support independent filmmakers just by taking a minute out of our day.

I know you all can do it, and for anyone who wishes they could do something themselves to help out the artists, directors, producers, actors, and any other filmmaker out there, now’s your chance!
